A friend of mine called a few days ago asking for some information regarding a recent attempt by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) to thwart — to the best of their ability — what they deemed an illegal music piracy operation. You see, my friend is a young journalism student trying to cut his teeth in the investigative reporting world. Since he knew that I had done some work in the area of video piracy, my opinion was valued. His primary focus for the story was an incident where mississippi students targeted by riaa for filesharing via the Internet were served litigation papers carrying with them steep fines. Of course I told him everything I knew and wished him luck.
