All In Favor Of Acai Settlement Say ‘Aye’!
The settlement against Central Coast Nutraceuticals comes as a big relief to anyone who has been scammed with an Acai free trial offer. These ‘offers’ were barely disguised deceptions, with details of expensive subscriptions being relegated to the very small small-print. Customers are misled about what they are buying, and have no opportunity to rectify the situation once they discovered what they had done.
Re-bill offers are nothing new, and generally they are above-board and legal. The difference with CCN’s approach was that they made it impossible to cancel the subscription: e-mails were never answered, and phone calls were left on hold and disconnected.
The Arizona attorney general – the legal body which brought the case against CCN – described its sales and advertising practices as “deceptive”.
The settlement appears to have consisted of a payment to the AG’s office of $1,375,000. Of this total, $350,000 except to be returned to aggrieved customers of the company. Another part of the settlement is an agreement by CCN to be more transparent with the products and services they provide.
Acai berry was just one of the products offered by CCN. As Acai free trial offers a receipt so much (bad) publicity lately, this settlement will be of particular interest to anyone in the Acai industry. Only time will tell whether this will have an effect on the other shady companies running Acai free trial offers, and we can only hope that this has a positive effect on the industry as a whole.
